Group Therapy
Members of a cohesive group feel warmth and comfort in the group and a sense of belongingness; they value the group and feel in turn that they are valued, accepted, and supported by other members.”
Group therapy is a specific type of mental health treatment that brings together people with similar conditions under the guidance of a licensed mental health care provider. Like a support group, it can be process-oriented in that there is a guided discussion of members’ experiences, or it can be skills-based or structured in a format that is consistent with a specific treatment protocol for a presenting problem that the members all experience and work on together
The effectiveness of group therapy is well researched. For some people it can offer advantages that may not be available through individual psychotherapy. For example, people who feel alone in their struggles may gain confidence and encouragement from interacting with peers who are "in the same boat.".
